The Alberni Valley Community Foundation currently makes grants from the Community Fund once a year. To apply for a grant, registered non-profits are invited to submit an expression of interest by February 28th. Qualifying charities will be notified should the Foundation require further information regarding their application.
Grants are usually in the $500 to $5,000 range.
Areas that the foundation supports are:
- Arts Culture and Heritage
- Education
- Health and Physical Activity
- Social Services
- Environment
The foundation will consider requests from registered charities for;
- Program-related projects (i.e., specific, time-limited activity or a series of activities designed to meet certain goals)
- Capital projects, including construction, renovation or equipment purchases.
Among those who have received support from the Foundation are:
School Backpack Program; Meals on Wheels; The Community Arts Council; Kidsport; Art Rave; Special Olympics; Cycle Alberni; ADAPS Youth and family; ACAWS; Abbeyfield; Heritage Place.
Families, organizations, institutions and corporations often choose to establish a Named Fund or indicate a field of interest to which their investment income is directed. Organizations see the added benefit of professional administration guaranteeing a steady return to help with operating costs, programs or a scholarship fund. A representative of the foundation would be pleased to discuss such arrangements with you or your group.
