Quotes

“Over the past few years, British Columbians continue to showcase resilience, innovation, and tenacity as they face new challenges. Community service groups across the province are playing a pivotal role in supporting communities,” said Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development and Non-profits Megan Dykeman. “Myself and Premier David Eby are elated to announce $60 million in funding to not-for-profits, and we thank local community foundations who have supported in the funding’s distribution.”

Hugh Grist, Chair Alberni Valley Community Foundation, said that, “The Foundation was very pleased to be able to assist with the delivery of this worthwhile initiative. We had more in applications than we could support, but are confident that these will be worthwhile investments in our community.”

27th May 2014

The Alberni Valley Community Foundation celebrated 20 years of service to the Community with their Annual General Meeting and Grants Presentation at the Athletic Hall on Tuesday evening.

It was a heartwarming evening to hear past grant recipients tell of their successes and this year’s recipients their expectations for the coming year. Many of those wonderful volunteers are shown here along with Foundation Board members, who really epitomize this “Town with a Heart”.

November 2013

In November 2013 the Foundation sponsored a public education forum titled “Living with Osteoarthritis”. Cari Taylor, the Education Manager for the Arthritis Society was the guest speaker along with Lynn Barton, a local physiotherapist. The forum was well received by the 45 attendees at the Barclay Hotel.

January 2010

In January 2010 the Foundation once again sponsored a climate change event, this time organized by the Alberni Environmental Coalition. Dr. Richard Hebda, a renowned botanist, provided a fascinating lecture on the effects that climate change, or more specifically a rise in temperature, will have on the flora and fauna of Vancouver Island.

Events in 2007 and 2009

In March 2009 the Foundation partnered with the City of Port Alberni in sponsoring a Climate Change and Sustainability Forum held at Echo Centre. This Forum was well attended and the two very enlightened speakers, Bruce Sampson and Nora-Kate Seymoar provided a most interesting and thought provoking evening.

In 2007 and again in July 2009 the Foundation was one of the sponsors of Forest Fest, a two day Festival of the Spoken Word, held at the scenic McLean Mill National Historic Site. This wonderful event, the largest of its kind on Vancouver Island, includes storytellers and poets for all ages, talented musicians and an open-air gospel concert on Sunday morning. The Foundation, a great believer in improving the level of literacy in the Alberni Valley, is proud to be a part of this well attended spectacle.
